John Wilbur Youngman, 94 of Murphysboro, passed away at
9:07 am on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Rehab & Care Center of
Jackson County in Murphysboro. John was born in Murphysboro on April 1,
1917 a son to the late John Anderson and Nancy Mae (Harrouff) Youngman.
He was united in marriage to Anna Mae Morgan on March 16, 1940 in St.
Louis, MO.; they shared 58 years of marriage. Anna preceded him in death
on June 17, 1998. Mr. Youngman was a Methodist; he was a U.S. Army
veteran serving during W.W.II in the Philippines as a Tec 4. During his
tour of duty he was wounded in combat, earning him a Purple Heart, he
also received two Bronze Stars for exemplary conduct in ground combat.
Early in his career, John worked for Draper Furniture and the Illinois
Central Railroad. Before retiring in 1982 he was a serviceman and drove
a transport truck for Northern Propane Gas Co. in Murphysboro. He also
enjoyed farming his 40 acres until retiring at the age of 93. He was a
lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and country music.
Funeral services will be at 11am on Friday, November 4, 2011 at Crawshaw
Funeral Home in Murphysboro, Rev. Earl Renshaw will officiate. Burial
will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park near Murphysboro with military
rites by members of the American Legion Paul Stout Post 127 and the
V.F.W. Post 7190 both of Murphysboro, the V.F.W. Post 2605 of Carbondale
and the Jackson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 69.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8pm on Thursday at Crawshaw Funeral Home.
Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the Rehab & Care Center of
Jackson County or the United Methodist Church and will be accepted at
the funeral home.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law; Mary and Rick Nagai of
Sugarland, TX., one son and daughter-in-law; John “Jay” and Gaye
Youngman of Murphysboro, five grandchildren; Matt (Jessica) Youngman of
Washburn, IL., Beth (Matt) Brooks of Murphysboro, Jennifer Nagai and her
finance’ Duane Alquist, Kevin (Maryam) Nagai and Scott Nagai all of
Sugarland TX., five great-grandchildren; Logan Youngman of Washburn,
IL., Cade and Cash Brooks, of Murphysboro and Alia and Eowyn Nagai of
Sugarland, TX. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in
death by one sister; Elsie Tucker.
