Robert Gene Streuter, 74 of Murphysboro died
at 10:10 pm Wednesday, March 19, 2008 in Murphysboro. Bob was born in
Okawville, IL. September 7, 1933 a son to the late Walter and Wilma (Klasing)
Streuter. He married Corrine L. Fricke October 15, 1955 in Okawville, IL.
Corrine survives of Murphysboro. Bob was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Murphysboro and had held many offices at Immanuel Lutheran
Church. He was a retired President and CEO of the former City National
Bank in Murphysboro. Bob was a United States Air Force Veteran and was a
Major in the USAF Reserves for 23 years retiring in 1993. Bob was a past
president of the Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce and received the "Citizen
of the Year" award in March 1997. He served as the Immanuel Lutheran
Missouri Synod Southern Illinois Dist. Treasurer from March 1997 through
March 2000, and in March 2003 was elected to the board of directors of the
Immanuel Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Southern Illinois Dist. and also
served as finance committee chairman. He was a member and Past President
of the Murphysboro Kiwanis Club; he was a long time member of the
Murphysboro Apple Festival Committee and received the Apple Festival
Founders Award in September 2005. He was a member of the John A. Logan
Foundation, a former member of the St. Joseph Memorial Hospital Board of
Directors and a member of the Board of Directors of the Jackson County
Business Development Corp. Bob was a devout Lutheran, a devoted husband,
father and grandfather, an avid golfer and a tireless volunteer to his
community. Services will be at 1 pm Monday, March 24, 2008 at the Immanuel
Lutheran Church in Murphysboro, Rev. Theodore Mayes will officiate, burial
will follow at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Murphysboro with
military rites by the American Legion Post 127 and VFW Post 7190 both of
Murphysboro, VFW Post 2605 Carbondale and the Jackson County Disabled
American Veterans Chapter 69. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Sunday,
March 23, 2008 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro and from 9 am to 1
pm Monday at the church. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the
Immanuel Lutheran Church or School, the American Cancer Society or the St.
Joseph Memorial Hospital and will be accepted at the church and funeral
home. In addition to his wife Corrine, other survivors include; three sons
and two daughter in law; R. Jeffrey and Rebecca Streuter of Murphysboro,
Phil Streuter of Palatine, IL., and John and Tammy Streuter of
Carterville, Il. one daughter and son in law; Cynthia and Len Novara of
Murphysboro, two sisters and one brother in law; Lorene Frederking of
Altamont, IL., and Joan and Edward Bohbrink of Jenks, OK., two brothers
and sister in law; Leonard and Rocella Streuter of Okawville, and Walter
and Martha Streuter Jr. of Collinsville, IL., 12 grandchildren; Ely and
Sara Streuter, Luke and Matthew Ray, Allison, Amy Jo, Tyler, Bethany,
Austin and Aaron Streuter, and Andrew and Emily Novara, sister in law and
husband; Alva and Bob Schroeder, brother in law and wife; Roland and LuAnn
Fricke and many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. In addition to
his parents he was preceded in death by one sister; Bonnie Kay Rex, and a
twin brother; Delbert Glenn Streuter. Bob's family also wishes to give
their heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Joseph Memorial Hospital for
their wonderful care. |
