Vera M. Severs, 83 of DeSoto formerly of Murphysboro died at 7:04am Friday, June 4, 2010 in Murphysboro. Vera was born May 15, 1927 in Murphysboro a daughter to the late Samuel Joseph and Lena Elizabeth (Schott) Jarrett. She married Harlon L. Worthen in Energy, IL. on May 21, 1948, Harlon preceded her in death on February 21, 1953. She later married George W. Severs on April 4, 1954; George also preceded her in death on February 5, 1998. Vera was a Member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Murphysboro, she was a very active member of the Murphysboro V.F.W. Post 7190 Ladies Auxiliary where she held several offices, she was also a Life Member of the Moose Lodge. She had worked at the former Brown Shoe Company in Murphysboro and had worked for several other clothing manufacture companies away from the Murphysboro area and was a homemaker. Funeral services will be at 11am on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, Rev. P.K. Sunny of St. Peter's United Church of Christ will officiate, burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park near Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 am on Tuesday at Crawshaw Funeral Home. Memorials are encouraged may be made to the V.F.W. Post 7190 Ladies Auxiliary and will be accepted at the funeral home. Survivors include one son; Gary Worthen of DeSoto, five grandchildren; Sam Worthen and Brandy Worthen, both of Salt Lake City, UT., and David Peat, and Vicky Peat, both of Ogden, UT., and Shaun Peat of Layton, UT., she is also survived by one brother-in-law; Norman Barnett. In addition to her husband's she was preceded in death by one son; George Allan Severs, one sister; Ora Lee Barnett and one brother.
