Ruth Derr Taylor, 87 of Lombard, Illinois
formerly of Murphysboro, died at 5:55pm Tuesday May 25, 2010 in Lombard.
Fulfilling her wishes her remains were cremated. Ruth was born in Ashland,
Ohio on September 3, 1922 the daughter of the late Guy L. and M. Vivian
(Briggs) Derr. She leaves three daughters and their husbands; Susan and
Steve Douglas of Murphysboro, Sara and Dan Omi of Lombard, and Sherry and
Rick Goodall of Erie, CO. Her five grandchildren include; Scott and Grant
Douglas, Gregory Omi, and Grace P. Taylor Goodall and a grandson; Neal Omi
who preceded her in death. She is also survived by one brother and his
wife; John A. and Irene Derr of Englewood, FL., and numerous nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her two brothers Dick and Guy Derr.
Ruth graduated from Lakewood High School in Lakewood, NY., Binghamton
General Hospital in Binghamton NY., from Southern Illinois University in
Edwardsville with a BS in nursing and from Southern Illinois University in
Carbondale with a Masters in Rehabilitation Administration. She retired
from the University of Illinois Division of Specialized Care for Children
(D.S.C.C.) where she was director or nursing. Her special interest was in
premature infants. She was a member of the Murphysboro Senior Citizens,
the Somerset unit of Home Extension, St. Joseph Memorial Hospital
Auxiliary, the Friends of Sally Logan Library, the First Presbyterian
Church, and a former member of the United Methodist Church all of
Murphysboro. Ruth loved to play cards, read, and travel and to care for
her many plants and flowers. Memorial services will be at 3pm Saturday,
July 10, 2010 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, Ruth's family will
receive friends from 1pm until the hour of services at the funeral home on
Saturday, her former pastor, Rev. Earl Renshaw will officiate. Memorials
are encouraged and may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, American Heart
Association, or to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the
funeral home.
