Rosemary L. Stearns, 84 of Murphysboro died at 5:20am on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Carbondale Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.  Rosemary was born in Murphysboro on April 16, 1927 a daughter to the late Charles and Mary (Riggs) Connelly.  She is survived by her husband of 64 years; Thomas E. Stearns, they were united in marriage in Tunica, MS on December 2, 1946.
She was a Life-long member of the First Baptist Church, where she and Tom first met.  She graduated from Murphysboro Township High School in the class of 1945; she was a member of Jackson County Home Extension and had been an Election Judge for many years, and was a Homemaker.
Services will be at 11am on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, Rev. Shaker Samuel of the First Baptist Church will officiate; burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park near Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 5 to 8pm on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Crawshaw Funeral Home.  Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the First Baptist Church of Murphysboro or to TIP Hospice, memorials will be accepted at the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Tom Stearns of Murphysboro, two daughters and sons-in-law; Mary Lou and Pete Brown of Carbondale, and Martha and Johnie Thornton of Herrin,  one daughter-in-law; Linda Stearns of Murphysboro, seven grandchildren, Malaina Brown, Brian Thornton, Kelley McAlpin, Christopher Thornton, Angela Holton, Crissy Stearns and Rewn Stearns, and six great grandchildren, she is also survived by three sisters-in-law; Bernell Stearns Wright, Lois Stearns Welch, and Janet Stearns Gosset.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Keith L. Connelly, Charles A. Connelly, and her beloved son Randall Thomas Stearns on October 10, 2010. The family expresses their most grateful appreciation to the staff of Carbondale Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the loving care provided to Rosemary. The family also thanks TIP/Hospice for the kindness shown by the Hospice team.
