Sharlet E. "Liz" Piper, 75 of DeSoto died at
8:25 am Saturday, February 21, 2009 in DeSoto. Liz was born in Elkville,
IL., September 5, 1933 a daughter to the late Clifford E. Batteau Sr. and
Helen Margaret (Carter) Batteau. Liz was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran
Church in DeSoto. She was a current member of the Order of the Eastern
Star in Murphysboro and was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the
Eastern Star-DeSoto Chapter, and past Worthy High Priestess of the Order
of the White Shrine - Carbondale Chapter. Funeral services will be at 11
am Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro,
with the Rev. Timothy A. Bean of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church officiating.
Burial will be at DeSoto City Cemetery in DeSoto. Visitation will be from
5 to 8 pm on Monday, February 23, 2009 at Crawshaw funeral home in
Murphysboro. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law; Clifford "Poochie"
and Judi Smith of DeSoto, two daughters and one son-in-law; Lelia R. and
Greg Dreyer and Jessica H. Piper all of DeSoto, ten grandchildren;
Garrett, Jarred A. and Samantha J. Smith, Christopher Dreyer, Alicia and
her husband William "Billy" Todd, Drake L. and Michael S. Piper, and Ally,
Abby and Elijah, one great grandson; William Parker Todd, two brothers and
sisters-in-law; John T. and Janet Batteau of DuQuoin, and William "Billy"
and Marilyn Batteau of Vergennes, two sisters and one brother-in-law;
Georgia D. and Denis Ross of Chicago, and Mary Ellen Willoughby of
Wichita, KS., also several especially close friends that include; Janet
and Kenny Fassel, Janece Ball, Betty Jennings, Ruth Ann Bolby, Pam Austin,
Janet Ann and Gary Belles, Aunt Lou Emma, Bonnie Copeland, and Terry and
Cassie McCarthy. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by
one sister; Dorothy Jean Batteau, and two brothers; Clifford Eugene "Dockie"
Batteau and Donald Ray Batteau. Memorials are encouraged and may be made
to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Sunday School or to Hospice of Southern
Illinois. |
