Henry Ford Peebles 86 of Murphysboro, died at 10:25 pm Wednesday, November 12, 2008 in Murphysboro. Ford was born in Pittsburg, IL., May 20, 1922 a son to the late Walter L. and Elizabeth (Marks) Peebles. He married Mae Kesler July 6, 1941 in Jackson, MO., Mae preceded him in death on November 10, 1979, he later married Beverly Lee Yates on August 29, 1980, Beverly also preceded him in death on July 30, 2001.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro; Rev. Shaker Samuel of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park near Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 10 am until 1 pm Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro, or to the Immanuel Lutheran School in Murphysboro, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
Ford was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro; and was a U.S. Army veteran from WWII. He was an electrician and had formerly owned Peebles Electric in Murphysboro. He later worked for CIPS where he retired from with over 20 years of service. He was also a member of IBEW #702, the Elks, and formerly was a member of the Murphysboro Rotary Club. In his younger years Ford was a well known I.H.S.A. referee and had officiated many high school Baseball, Basketball and Football games all over Southern Illinois, he was a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1987.
Survivors include; one grandson and his wife; Scott R. and Paula Maloney of Murphysboro, one great granddaughter; Meagan Maloney of Murphysboro, one great grandson; Mitchell Maloney of Murphysboro, one brother and his wife; Wallace “Pete” and Wilma Peebles of Marion, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by one daughter; Kay Maloney, one brother; Dick Peebles, and two sisters; Gladys Hendrickson and Ruth Farenchek.
