Joyce Ann Mills, 80 of Murphysboro passed away
peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 22, 2009.
Joyce was born on October 3, 1928 a daughter to the late Roscoe and
Audrey (Hiller) Dobbs. She attended Murphysboro schools and
Murphysboro Township High School, always speaking fondly of her happy
days in high school with her many friends. Joyce lived an active
life, involved with her family, playing golf, and bridge clubs she
was a member of the United Methodist Church in Murphysboro and was
active in her Sunday school class; she was also a member of the
Jackson County Country Club and the Murphysboro Elks Lodge #
572. She enjoyed a good joke, a hearty laugh, good food, Fox news,
the St. Louis Cardinals, and her card club girlfriends. Above all,
her most cherished activities were time spent with her sons and their
families.
Joyce was married to her high school classmate Robert B. Mills on
August 1, 1948. As a young married couple, while Robert was in
Chiropractic College, as well as early in his career, they resided in
St. Louis before returning to Murphysboro to start Mills Chiropractic
and be near their family. Dr. Robert preceded her in death on June 6, 2003.
Joyce is survived by two sons; Dr. Robert L. Mills of Marion and Dr.
Stephen C. Mills and wife, Tracey, of Carterville; four
grandchildren, Linc Mills of Marion and Grant, Shea Leigh and
Brockton Mills of Carterville; one sister, Ruth Robinson of St.
Louis; two brothers, Roscoe "R.A." Dobbs Jr. and wife, Ruth of
Highland, IL. and Carroll "Buddy" Dobbs and wife, Betty of
Murphysboro; two brothers-in-law, Landess Mills and wife, Judy of
Murphysboro and Mike Mills of Murphysboro; two sisters-in-law,
Jeanette Mills Hudgins and husband, John of Murphysboro and Mary Pat
Mills of Kauai, Hawaii and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two sisters;
Opal Kharibian, and Patsy Harley.
Services are Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the United
Methodist Church in Murphysboro with Rev. Larry Gilbert and Rev. Earl
Renshaw officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday
from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at
Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are in the care
of Crawshaw Funeral Home.
Memorials are encouraged and preferred and may be made to the United
Methodist Church.
