George Lawrence Miles Sr. 79, of Semmes, Alabama formerly of Grand Tower and Desoto died at 7:50 am Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at his residence in Semmes. George was born December 22, 1927 in Chaffee, MO., a son to the late Charles & Josephine (Wright) Miles. George was retired from the Illinois Central Railroad, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy WWII and was a member of the V.F.W. in DuQuoin, IL. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 pm Thursday April 19,2007at Radney Funeral Home in Mobile, AL. Graveside services will be at 1 pm Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Walker Hill Cemetery in Grand Tower, IL., Pastor Chris Hottensen of the Desoto Baptist church will officiate. He is survived by six children and their spouses; George L. and Spring Miles Jr. of Desoto, Phillip and Denise Miles of Destin, FL., Elaine and David Wheeler of Axis, AL., Richard and Schelle Miles of Semmes, AL., Caroline Miles Cantrell of Greenville, SC., and Gregory and Renee Miles of Camp LeJeune, NC., four brothers; Bill Miles, Lee Britt Miles, Benny Miles, and Joseph Miles, one sister; Betty Miles, seventeen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces nephews and other relatives, he will be sadly missed by his many friends and relatives. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Local arrangements are in the care of Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro.
