Cato Allen McKinnie, age 76 of Minneapolis died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 in Minnesota of complications from multiple sclerosis. He retired as a High School Counselor from Minneapolis Public Schools. Mr. McKinnie served as a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois and the University of Minnesota Graduate School. Survivors include his mother, Myrtle McKinnie of Murphysboro; one daughter, Karen McKinnie of San Jose, California; three sisters, Christine Dunham, Bonnie West and LaLeeta Wilson; one brother, Robert McKinnie of Murphysboro and four nieces and three nephews. Mr. McKinnie was preceded in death by his father, Cato McKinnie. Funeral services are Friday, May 15, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro with Rev. Earl Renshaw and Rev. Larry Gilbert officiating. Interment is in the Tower Grove Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post 127 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7190, both in Murphysboro, VFW Post 2605 in Carbondale and Jackson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 69. Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society
