Chresta A. Lockard, 85 of Murphysboro, died at 12:10 am Wednesday, February 13, 2008 in Carbondale. Chresta was born in Murphysboro October 24, 1922 a daughter to the late James Walter & Dora Ezilda (Carter) Ward. She married Charles Leland Lockard in Murphysboro, March 26, 1944; Leland preceded her in death June 24, 2003. Chresta was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro; she was a member of the Loyal Builders Sunday School Class and the Helping Hands Circle at First Baptist Church. She was also a member of Home Extension and a charter member of the Thumbalina Sewing Club, she was a homemaker, and had worked for C.I.P.S. as a secretary and also had been the financial secretary at the First Baptist Church for many years. Funeral services will be at 1 pm Saturday, February 16, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Murphysboro, Rev. Shaker Samuel of the First Baptist Church will officiate, burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park near Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 10am to 1 pm Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the first Baptist Church. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the First Baptist Church or to the Friends of Murphysboro association and will be accepted at the church or the funeral home. Crawshaw Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include three daughters and son in law; Lea Ann and Bruce Fager, Sue Lynn and Murl Johnson, and Janet and Bryce Cramer all of Murphysboro, grandchildren include; Byram Fager, Brad and Soo-Jin Fager, Darin and Nicki Fager, Stephanie Johnson and her fiancé' Kip Dillow, Andrea Johnson and her fiancé Eric Waddington, Kim and Kent James, and Shaun Cramer, great grandchildren; Robert Fager, Garrett and Zach James and Gibson Fager, two sister in laws; Mildred Ward of Murphysboro and Nina Ward of Iceland, her long time friend and neighbor; Rose Stevens of Murphysboro, very special friends; Jessica and Donovan Reinhardt, her family also wishes to give special recognition to her caregivers who have all been like family; Jessica Reinhardt, Carolyn Ewbank, Sherri Williams, Tara Troutman, Martha Wheeler, Donna Webb, her niece Gayle Gilmore, and Bud Attig, she is also survived by a large number of nieces and nephews, and many special close friends and neighbors. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters; Nadeen Gillooly, and Naomi Holliday, four brothers; Leslie, Elmer, Ray, and Lavern "Soggy" Ward, and one infant sister. Chresta's life was filled with special times with her grandchildren & great grandchildren, reading, and her special love of crocheting.
