Leo B. Korando, 80 of Murphysboro,
passed away at 3:24 am, Monday, October 31, 2005 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Leo was born in Jacob, Il. on January 26, 1925 the son of the late Louis Loy and Elizabeth (Shields) Korando. Leo was married to the love of his life and soul mate Mary C. "Mickey" Grimes at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro on September 29, 1962 she survives of Murphysboro. As a husband, father and grandfather Leo was the light in many peoples life. His love and kindness helped his family grow and his light will continue to shine even now that he is with the angels. Early in his life Leo served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He loved music and was a self taught guitarist and continued to play throughout his life. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals and thought baseball was the greatest game ever played. He was active in the Murphysboro V.F.W. Post 7190 and the Murphysboro American Legion Post 127. As past Commander he worked tirelessly for the Chapter 69, Jackson County Disabled American Veterans and strongly believed in Veterans rights. He honored other veterans by participating in military funerals for over 20 years. As a member, he loved working with the Knights of Columbus and particularly loved Thursday night Bingo at the K of C hall. He was the Somerset Township Supervisor. He retired from the Lustor Corporation after 30 years of employment. A Funeral Mass will be presented at 10:00 am on Friday, November 4, 2005 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro, Father Gary Gummersheimer will officiate, burial will follow at St. Andrews Cemetery in Murphysboro, with military graveside rites by members of the American Legion Post 127 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7190 both in Murphysboro, VFW Post 2605 in Carbondale and the Jackson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 69. Visitation will be after 5:00 pm on Thursday, November 3, 2005 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro. In addition to his wife Mickey other survivors include; one son; Earl Ray Jacquot, four daughters and son in laws; Karen M. and Steve Mueller of St. Louis, MO, Karla G. and Larry Rathert of Campbell Hill, IL., Marsha K. and Ted Baker of Murphysboro, and Lisa and John Budslick of Carbondale. Grandchildren; Jennifer Brodhurst, Jacqueline Jacquot, Julianne Jacquot, Stefanie Muller, Rebecca Rathert, Katie Baker, Shea Baker, John W. Budslick, Greg (Amy) Budslick, Daniel Leo Budslick, Elizabeth Ann Budslick, and one Great Grandson; Devon Jordon. He is also survived by two sisters; Grace Murden of Codben, Il. and Betty Korando of Murphysboro. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son; Dennis M. Korando who died at the age of 15 on Feb. 10, 1966, one sister; Ceil Corbi, and three brothers; Joseph, Gene, and Cliff Korando. He was a loving, caring and supportive husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing the guitar with his grandson Daniel Budslick. He loved music and dancing. Everyone enjoyed watching him and Mickey effortlessly glide on the dance floor. He could make any family event a joyous party by his happiness and love of life. He was a devoted Catholic his entire life he was a member of and loved Saint Andrew Church and School. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the Leo B. Korando Scholarship at Saint Andrew School and will be accepted at the funeral home or the church or school. He will be deeply missed.
