Vieanna Mae Hunter, 89 of Murphysboro passed away at 7:50pm Monday, August 31, 2009 at the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County in Murphysboro. She had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in 1996. Vienna was born on February 9, 1920 in Jackson County, a daughter to the late Albert Logan and Mary Julie (Green) Summers. Vieanna was a graduate of Murphysboro Township High School, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro. She married Lester S. Hunter the son of Samuel and Levina Hunter on January 16, 1943 in Cape Girardeau, MO. Lester preceded her in death. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Lester and Vieanna were founders and co-publishers of "The Murmur" weekly newspaper in Murphysboro. The newspaper became the "Murphysboro Current" when it was sold in 1965.
Services will be at 11am Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, the Rev. Shaker Samuel of the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Murphysboro or to the charity of your choice.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law; Carol L. and Del Smith of Mokena, IL., one son and daughter-in-law; Ron and Janet Hunter of Murphysboro, one brother and sister-in-law; Earl B. and Gerry Summers of Murphysboro, grandchildren; Kurt & Erin Smith, Andrea Smith, Kristy & Anthony Prudencio, and Stacey & Ryan Brooks, great grandson; Jonathon Prudencio, four nieces; Geraldine Pleasant, Marilyn Summers, Mitzi Summers, and Peggy Chamness, two nephews; Jim Summers and David Summers. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three brothers and sisters-in-law; John and Doris Summers, Bill and Ruby Summers, Roy and Dorothy Summers and one sister and brother-in-law; Marie and Austin Pleasant.
