Lettie L. Hornbostel, 81 of Murphysboro died at 11:46 pm Saturday, May 16, 2009 in Murphysboro. Lettie was born in Ava, IL. July 2, 1927 a daughter to the late John and Edna (Harrell) McCoy. She married Robert W. Hornbostel September 22, 1942 in Willisville; Robert preceded her in death in 1996. Lettie was a member of the Crain Baptist Church in rural Ava; she was also a member of the Eastern Star and White Shrine in Murphysboro. She along with her husband Bob and granddaughter Terri were the original owners and operators of the Blue Bell Restaurant near Murphysboro; she had also worked for K-Mart Corp. in stores in East St. Louis, Belleville and Carbondale. Funeral services will be at 1 pm Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, Pastors Gilbert Gee and Floyd Bennett will officiate, burial will be in Ava Evergreen Cemetery in Ava. Visitation will be from 10 am until the hour of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the Crain Baptist Church or the Crain Cemetery Association and will be accepted at the funeral home. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law; Phyllis and Dennis Arras of Belleville, IL. and Susan and Ted Bear of Atlanta, GA., five granddaughters; Terri (Rick) Bryant of Murphysboro, Kim (Glen) Holtman of Albers, IL., Barbara (Bo) Wispell of Temple, GA., Cindy (Tom) Wolfe of Belleville, IL., and Tracy (Rick) Ratner of Johnson City, TN., thirteen great grandchildren, and three great- great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter; Peggy Hornbostel in 1976, three sisters, three brothers, and twin infant sons.
