Carl Dean Hoppe, 69 of Murphysboro died at
9:50pm on Thursday, October 14, 2010 in Murphysboro. Carl Dean was born
November 25, 1940 in Gorham, IL. a son to the late Jesse C. and Laura Mae
(Fitch) Hoppe. He was united in marriage to Margaret L. Fielding in
Corenth, Mississippi on August 17, 1957, Margaret survives of Murphysboro.
Carl Dean was a musician and entertainer and performed the "Carl Dean Show
"in all fifty states throughout his career that spanned over fifty years.
Carl Dean was raised in the Bottoms of Gorham, IL. and started his career
in the summer of 1957 with a few dollars in his pocket, and his natural
talent as a piano player and the determination to succeed at what he
wanted to do. Carl Dean traveled coast to coast and boarder to boarder for
43 years. He was a musician of country music and 50's and 60's rock and
roll. For the first 30 years, Carl Dean had a band traveling with him, in
the later years he put on a one man show singing and playing by himself.
As Carl Dean was quoted in a September 2001 interview "I book and perform
all my shows and I never miss a single one". "My first love is and always
will be music," he adds. "I set shows up six to eight weeks in advance and
allow a week or so off before I take off again." In the same interview he
extended a special thank you to all of those of Murphysboro and the
surrounding area who have helped support me and my career throughout his
years of travel and entertainment. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m.
Monday, October 18, 2010 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, Pastor
Roger Bastien will officiate. Interment will be in Goodbread Cemetery near
Gorham. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral
home. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the American Cancer
Society Prairie Cardiovascular Relay for Life Team and will be accepted at
the funeral home. Survivors include his wife; Margaret, one daughter and
son-in-law; Donna and David Pelzer of Murphysboro; one son and
daughter-in-law, Russell and Carol Hoppe of Campbell Hill, Il., one
sister; Wilma Phillips of Gorham, Il., three grandchildren; Travis
Arbeiter, Crystal Dulaney and Nicki Hoppe, three great grandchildren;
Skylor and Ky Dulaney and Bevon Stewart, he is also survived by many
nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Carl Dean was
preceded in death by his parents, one son; Curtis Dean Hoppe, three
sisters; Jewell Davis, Helen Klein an infant sister; Betty Hoppe, four
brothers; Edward, Arvel, Lloyd and Herbert Hoppe.
