William F. "Bill" Herring, 76 of Murphysboro died at 3:08pm Friday, May 1, 2009 in Murphysboro. Bill was born in Levan Township, Jackson County, IL. April 21, 1933 a son to the late Freeman and Pearl (Bryant) Herring. He married Thelma Wisely in Murphysboro on December 22, 1956, Thelma survives of Murphysboro. Bill was a U.S. Army veteran from the Korean Conflict, he was a union carpenter for over 50 years and a member of the Carpenters Local # 638 and was retired from Southern Illinois University, he was also a farmer and took great pride in his Charolais cattle that are prized as a high quality beef cattle breed. Funeral services will be at 11 am Monday, May 4, 2009 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, Pastor James Easton will officiate, burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park with military rites by the American Legion Paul Stout Post 127 and the V.F.W. Post 7190 both of Murphysboro, the V.F.W. Post 2605 of Carbondale and the Jackson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 69. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm on Sunday at Crawshaw Funeral Home. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the Pate Chapel Baptist Church building fund and will be accepted at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife Thelma of Murphysboro, one son and daughter-in-law; Ray and Teresa Herring of Murphysboro, one daughter and two sons-in-law Beverly and Rob Rendleman of Vergennes, and Scott Fluegel of Murphysboro, five grandchildren; Jessica and Stephen Herring, Jenna and Lucas Rendleman, and Sara Fluegel, one sister; Doris Heiple of Murphysboro, and two step-sisters; Margie Imhoff of Murphysboro and Norma Miner of Colorado. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter; Janice R. Fluegel, his step-mother; Lura (Thompson) Herring, two sisters, one brother and one step-brother.
