Fern Grammer, 93 of Mahomet, IL., formerly of Murphysboro passed away at 7:08pm on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 in Mahomet. Fern was born on March 15, 1917 in Herrin, IL., to the late James Benjamin and Lauretta Ann (Brothers) McElmurry. She was united in marriage to Howard Grammer on April 8, 1939 in St. Louis, MO.; Howard preceded her in death on October 23, 1991. Mrs. Grammer was a homemaker and a wonderful wife and mother. She was an active member of First Christian Church of Murphysboro and was responsible for organizing the first children's nursery. Fern was a Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scouts Leader, member of the Home Extension and a sewing club. She gave of herself in volunteer work at the St. Joseph Memorial Hospital and a Christian Nursing Home in Herrin. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 12 noon at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, Pastor Frank Voorhees will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park near Murphysboro. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 am until the hour of services at the funeral home. She is survived by one son and Daughter-in-law; James & Louise Grammer of Mahomet and one daughter and-son-in-law; Catherine & Craig Voorhees of Bridgeton, MO., ten grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
