Evelyn V. Worthen, 94, of Murphysboro
died at 5:01 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2007 with her family by her side. Evelyn was born in Sand Ridge, IL. February 8, 1913 a daughter to the late Guy T. and Gertrude (Rolens) Smith. She married E. Laverne Worthen on December 30, 1941 in Jackson MO; he preceded her in death February 13, 1981. Evelyn was a member of Sand Ridge Baptist Church, she was a homemaker; she was also a member of the Jackson County Homemakers Extension Assoc., Jackson County Historical Society, a member at large of Beta Sigma Phi, St. Joseph Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Murphysboro Senior Citizens, past leader of Somerset Cloverettes 4-H Club, past member of IL-MO Bantam Club, past member of KIAM Egyptian RBA and served as secretary, past member of Illinois RBA and national RBA. Funeral services will be at 11 am Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro; Pastor Ron Heiman will officiate. Burial will follow at Tower Grove Cemetery in Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home and until the hour of services Thursday. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the Sand Ridge Baptist church or 4-H and will be accepted at the funeral home. Survivors include one daughter and son in law; Lynnette and Paul Penrod of Murphysboro six Grandchildren; Nancy (Kirk) Caskey, Peggy (Murl ) Reiman both of Murphysboro, John Thomas "J.T." Worthen Jr. of Herrin, Becky (Jody) Leeper of Carterville, Creed Joseph Worthen of Murphysboro, and Nathan Wachsnicht. Nine great grandchildren; Joel Caskey, Matthew Caskey, Sarah Reiman, Taylor Reiman, Dylan Worthen, Zackary Worthen, Colton Worthen, Lacey Leeper, and Shelby Leeper, one daughter in law; Linda Worthen of Murphysboro, one Niece; Nancy (Eddie) Scihiwitz of Lakeland FL., and one Sister in law; Bernadine Graff of Muskegon MN. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son John T. Worthen, one Brother in law; Homer Graff, and one brother and sister in law Merwin D. and Maxine (Demster) Smith.
