Janet May Dayton, 97 of Vanderwagen, NM formerly of Murphysboro
died at 12:20 am Saturday, March 4, 2006 in Grants NM. Janet was in Murphysboro July 30, 1908 the daughter of the late Thomas Jr. and Ida May (Spieth) Burton. Janet was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Murphysboro and the First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston, MA. She was a former member of the Murphysboro Senior Citizens, Jackson County Nursing Home Auxiliary, and the Murphysboro Eastern Star Lodge since 1926. For over 40 years she was part of Burton Supply Co. in Murphysboro, founded by T.J. Burton in February 1924, until she retired in March of 1984, while there she was known by her many customers and friends as Miss Burton. Graveside services will be at 11 am on Friday, March 10, 2006 at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park Cemetery near Murphysboro. Memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ Scientist in Murphysboro. Survivors include one son and daughter in law; Robert E. and Delores Dayton, one grandson and his wife; Jon E. and LeNee Dayton, three great grandchildren; Devin Wallace Dayton, Courtnee Janet Dayton and Dylan Charles Dayton all of Vanderwagen NM and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents five brothers preceded her in death.
