Donald R. Davis, R.PH. 70 of Murphysboro,
died at 7:15 pm Monday, October 22, 2007 in Murphysboro. Don was born in DuQuoin, IL., December 2, 1936 a son to the late Ralph M. & Diza W. (Kimmel) Davis. He married Trish Owens at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Desoto, IL., March 31, 1978, she survives of Murphysboro. Don was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Desoto, and was a retired pharmacist, Don was a class of 1954 graduate of Murphysboro Township High School and played basketball and baseball while in high school, he graduated with high honors from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1959, he owned and operated the former Towne Pharmacy in Murphysboro from 1966 through 1984 and was a licensed pharmacist for 46 years in Illinois, Tennessee, and Missouri. After 1984 he taught in the Pharmacist program at the University of Tennessee-Memphis for two years and was teacher of the year both years, he then worked for six additional years as director of labs in the pharmacy program at the University of Tennessee-Memphis; during his tenure at the University of Tennessee he edited several pharmacy text books. Don was also the pharmacist at Toms Mad Pricer from 1996 through 2003. He was a member and past President of the Murphysboro Kiwanis club, he had been a member of the Murphysboro Apple Festival Committee for several years, Don was also a member of the Sons of American Legion Paul Stout Post 127 in Murphysboro, a member of B.P.O.E. 572 in Murphysboro, an avid golfer as well as a very well known and respected citizen of Murphysboro. Funeral services will be at 11 am Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, Rev. Shaker Samuel of the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro will officiate, burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park near Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, October 26, 2007 at Crawshaw Funeral Home. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the American Heart Assn. or to the American Lung Assn. envelopes will be available for both organizations at the funeral home. In addition to his wife Trish, he is survived by one son and daughter in law; Mike and Pam Davis of Murphysboro, two daughters and son in laws; Michelle and Steve Reames of Ava, and Heather and Marcus Lindner of Murphysboro, one brother; Paul Davis of Jacksonville, FL., five grandchildren; Stephanie Simmons and her husband Scott, Micah Davis, Connor Davis, Emilynn Lindner, and Ande Lindner, two great grandchildren; Xander and Megan Simmons. Don's family also wishes to thank Dr. Michael Treece for his outstanding care.
