Margel M. Crawford, 86 of Murphysboro died
peacefully at 4:30pm on Monday, August 23, 2010 at Parkway Manor in
Marion, IL. Mrs. Crawford was born October 10, 1923 in Rosedale, Indiana
to the late Arnold and Delpha Mae (Cleghorn) Mikels. She met her late
husband, John T. Crawford on a blind date in Indianapolis in 1944. She was
working at the State House and John was in the Air Force. They were later
married on April 18, 1947. A few years later they moved to Murphysboro and
opened Crawford's Jewelry, she and John operated Crawford's Jewelry until
their retirement. Margel was an active member of the First United
Methodist Church of Carbondale and home extension. Per her wishes her
remains have been donated to the St. Louis University School of Medicine.
Memorial services will be held at 6pm on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the
First United Methodist Church in Carbondale, Rev. John Annabel will
officiate. Her family will receive friends from 5 to 6 pm on Thursday at
the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United
Methodist Church of Carbondale or to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MAAD)
500 North Michigan Avenue Ste.1039 Chicago, IL. 60611. Memorials will be
accepted at the church or Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro. She is
survived by one sister; Elaine Mikels Screen of Rosedale, IN., one
granddaughter and her husband; Angie and Neil Voss of Murphysboro and two
great grandchildren; John and Madison Voss. In addition to her family, she
is also survived by many wonderful friends; including Betty Barger and her
special caregiver, Denise Hanson and her loyal canine companion; Suzie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son; David Crawford on
January 3, 1984 and her husband John on May 12, 1994. |
