Daniel E. Canning 61, of Vergennes, IL., died at 7:10 am on Thursday, October 28, 2010 in Vergennes. Daniel was born on August 19, 1949 in Red Bud, IL., a son to the late Byron Earl "Shorty" and Dorothy (Deason) Canning. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Singleton, Elizabeth survives of Vergennes. Daniel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Murphysboro and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Daniel had worked at a teller at the former City National Bank in Murphysboro; he later worked at Lee's Food Mart convenience store in Murphysboro and had also worked at the Center for Comprehensive Services in Carbondale. Memorial services will be at 11am on Monday, November 1, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Murphysboro with Pastor Charles Allen of Elm Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park near Murphysboro, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Paul Stout Post 127, V.F.W. Post 7190 both of Murphysboro, V.F.W. Post 2601 of Carbondale and the Jackson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 69. Visitation will be from 9 until 11 am Monday at the First Presbyterian Church. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the donor's choice and will be accepted at the church or the funeral home. Arrangements are in the care of Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro. Survivors include his wife; Elizabeth of Vergennes, one daughter and son-in-law; Keri and Chris Kiser of Murrieta, CA., one son; Daniel Andrew Canning, active duty United States Navy, San Diego, CA., one step-daughter; Kimberly Longwell of Vergennes, one brother and sister-in-law; David and Cindy Canning of Murphysboro, special friends; Stephanie and Brittany Tucker both of Vergennes and a host of Nieces and Nephews and other family.
