Tobias K. Berger Sr., 92, of Murphysboro,
"was called to the office for the last time" at 4:45 pm Monday, January 8,
2007 in Murphysboro. Tobias was born in Murphysboro December 9, 1914, a
son of the late George "Rusty" and Margaret (Penrod) Berger (Margaret was
killed in the 1925 Tornado). He married Kathryn Lenora Lewis in
Murphysboro July 30, 1932. She preceded him in death June 30, 1985.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am Friday, January 12, 2007 at
Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, Father Gary Gummersheimer of St.
Andrew Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Tower Grove
Cemetery in Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Thursday,
January 11, 2007 at the funeral home. Memorials are encouraged and may be
made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. Andrew Catholic Church
Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home. Mr. Berger was a
member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro and the Murphysboro
Moose Lodge. He was employed by the Brown Shoe Co. in Murphysboro for 28
years before accepting employment with the Murphysboro School Dist. #186
as a custodian for 20 years, before retiring to care for his wife Kathryn.
Mr. Berger had been featured in "Duck Calls of Illinois". He enjoyed
making duck calls, and duck hunting with his family and friends. He and
Kathryn also enjoyed camping and taking short trips Survivors include two
sons and daughter in laws; Lewis Earl & Margaret Ann Berger, and Dean &
Jama Berger both of Murphysboro, one sister, Mrs. Ella Mae Geschwend of
Belleville, IL., six grandsons; Gregory (Anne) Berger, Brett (Jessica)
Berger, Timothy (Kim) Berger, Bart Berger, Mark (Michelle) Berger, and
Todd (Wendy)Berger Dunn; two step grandsons Steve Berger Leinicke of Red
Bud and Gregg Berger Leinicke of Florida, great grand children; Andrew and
Andersen Berger of Edwardsville; Zachary, Grant, Clayton, Brianna, and
Hailey Berger of Murphysboro; Autumn, and Carson Dunn of Chester; Colton
and Brooke Dunn of Coulterville, and Jarred and Jerina Leinicke of Red
Bud. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one
son; Tobias K. Berger Jr. on Aug.8, 1979, one brother George "Pug" Berger,
two grandsons, Scott Berger Dunn Feb. 1988, and Blake Berger Dunn April
2003, and one great grandson, Gabriel Berger Dec.1999. |
