Opal V. Belt, 96 of Murphysboro, died at 5:35pm on
Tuesday, October 25, 2011 in Murphysboro. Opal was born in Hardin
County, IL. on April 1, 1915 a daughter to the late Richard and Sadie
(Winn) McDowell. She was united in marriage to James Adrian Belt on
July 23, 1932 in Cave in Rock, IL. James preceded her in death on
September 12, 1999.
Opal was a former member of the United Methodist Church in Cave in Rock,
IL., and currently was a member of the First United Methodist Church in
Carbondale. She was a retired Catalog Department Clerk for Sears, and
was a homemaker.
Graveside services will be at Cave Hill Cemetery near Cave in Rock, IL.
at 1pm on Friday, October 28, 2011, Rev. Alan Rhein of the First United
Methodist Church in Carbondale will officiate. Those attending services
are asked to gather at the cemetery. Memorials are encouraged and may
be made to the United Methodist Church in Cave in Rock.
Survivors include one daughter; Virginia Maerker of Murphysboro, two
sons; Jim Belt of Carterville, IL., and Richard Belt of Zavalla, TX.,
five grandchildren; Mark (Pam) Scott of Murphysboro, Cindy Scott Jones
of St. Louis, MO., Douglas K. Scott of Frederick, MD., Kent Belt and
Kevin Belt, and one great-grandson; Preston Scott. Opal was preceded in
death by her parents, husband, two sisters and one brother.
