Donald Eugene Baker, 89 of Murphysboro died at 5:45pm on Saturday, October
8, 2011 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, IL. Donald
was born March 11, 1922 in Murphysboro a son to the late Harlen L. “Pop”
and Edna Mae (Smith) Baker Costello. He was united in marriage to Mary
Eleanor Pieron in San Diego, CA., on June 14, 1942; Mary Eleanor
preceded him in death on June 1, 2001. Mr. Baker was a member of the
First Baptist Church in Murphysboro; he was a U.S. Army veteran having
served during WWII. He was the first person employed by the former
Lustor Corporation in Murphysboro retiring after 42 years.
Services will be at 11am on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Crawshaw
Funeral Home in Murphysboro, Rev. Janice West will officiate. Burial
will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park near Murphysboro. Visitation
will be from 5 to 8pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Crawshaw Funeral
Home. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to N.A.M.I. the
(National Alliance on Mental Illness), and will be accepted at the
funeral home
Survivors include; one daughter; Gloria Franklin of Murphysboro, one
brother; Edward L. Baker of Murphysboro, one sister and two
brothers-in-law; Edna Maxine and J.J. Pieron of Murphysboro, and Eugene
Schnur of Mascoutah, IL., six grandchildren; Kim Franklin, Mark Ridings,
Dana Ridings, John Franklin, LaDonna Smoot, Michel Ridings, 15
great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. In addition to
his parents and wife he was also preceded in death by one son; John Mark
Baker and one daughter; Marilyn Thompson, one brother; William L. Baker
and one sister; Elizabeth A. Schnur.
