Betty Jane Mileur, 84, of Murphysboro died on
Sunday, August 28th, 2011 in Murphysboro. Betty was born on November 21,
1926 to the late Clyde and Frieda Lynch in Carrier Mills, Illinois.
After graduating from high school in St. Louis, Betty moved to
Murphysboro and began working at Brown Shoe Factory as a fancy sticher.
In Murphysboro, she met a handsome war veteran, Joseph Alexander Mileur
in December, 1944. The two were married in Murphysboro on April 14th,
1945 and spent the next 65 years together. Betty and Joe moved to
Phoenix, AZ where Betty began her long and successful career as a
beautician. Together, they founded Mileur’s Coiffures. While in
Arizona, Betty rose to the top of her profession as a beautician winning
numerous State and National styling competitions including placing in
the top five when she represented Arizona in national competitions. She
loved to tell stories of her days in competition and show her talents in
“backbrushing” to make a style last longer. Betty would tell you her
“life began” when she got her children, Rachelle Marie and Joseph
Patrick. Betty and Joe returned to Murphysboro to raise their children
as members of St. Andrew’s Parish. To be available for her children,
Betty moved her business to her home and spent the last 30 years of her
life making sure the women of Murphysboro were well coiffed. When she
was not working, Betty enjoyed playing golf at Jackson Country Club on
ladies day. She is famous for playing “Dolly” at the “Hello Dolly”
tournament. She loved to tell a good joke and make people laugh. At the
peak of her golfing days, Betty won top of her class and made a hole in
one. She loved to play cards with the ladies at the club and host bridge
club at her home. Betty was an excellent cook and loved to serve her
special beef enchiladas, shrimp creole and famous fried chicken. Her
life began again with the arrival of her grandchildren; Grace Marie,
Jackson Joseph Patrick and Joseph Carter. She was the best “Mamo” a
child could have always giving a hug or sharing an ice cream.
Betty is survived by her husband, Joe, her daughter, Rachelle of
Seattle, and son, Joey and his wife Marcy of Murphysboro, her
granddaughter Grace of Seattle and Grandsons Jackson of Seattle and
